Alumni Notes: March / April 2010

Remember that besides what you read in this column, where a space limitation applies, there is a wealth of other classmate news on our class website www.yale62.org published on or about January 27th.

Dr.David Hershey recently, practicing psychiatry in Dallas, Tx, earned a Ph. D in Archeology from Southern Methodist in December 2008. Charles Young wrote in that he continues in a tri-residential mode, claiming London, Cannes, and Purchase, NY. His address change indicates he is no longer an executive with the Olympia York Canary Wharf organization. Alex Garvin has a new book coming out this Spring, titled Public Parks: The Key to Livable Communities, and he is in his 43d year of teaching at Yale.

Bert Decker, based in San Francisco, has shared with us his very entertaining Ten Best and Worst Communicators of 2009, to which we've linked from here on our website. Bert is chairman of his own communications training company, where his son Ben is President. He has written three books, speaks professionally, and is active in charity work in the Bay Area, notably the Salvation Army. Bert has 14 grandchildren, and is happily married to author Dru Scott Decker.

Ford Maurer writes from Kansas City about an almost complete great new opera house in that city, and wants us to visit in 2011. Guess 2010 is too soon. He continues as President of the Foxx Equipment Company.

Al Gilman writes that he has retired as an active member of the University of Texas Southwestern faculty and administration, although he retains the title of Regental Professor of Pharmacology Emeritus. He has moved on to a new job as Chief Scientific Officer of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).

Dr. John Templeton has sent in word from Bryn Mawr that he now has five grandchildren. John heads the John Templeton Foundation in Conshohocken, Pa.

Please remember to send us your news, and stay well.
