Reunion blinks

Below are photo inklings of what went on in and around Jonathan Edwards College from Thursday to Sunday, June 1st to 4th. If you have other shots, please send them for future use. I've also included a few lines from the lovely memorial service in Battel Chapel that Peter Sipple led for the classmates who have died near the time of, or since, our 50th reunion in 2012. Further reunion notes on our class will appear shortly in the Alumni Magazine.

FYI, previews of about a third of the topics in the 30 talks that classmates gave us had gotten earlier treatment on this website in one way or another. Our group is rich in experience, wit and wisdom, and we're working on getting more samples of that here. Please suggest ideas. And, AT NO EXTRA CHARGE, watch this space for updates on Dave and Cindy Hummel's quest to visit every country on earth!

Remembering Our Classmates

"Many of those who have died over the past five years I did not know; perhaps that's true for you, too. Yet we're here in part to acknowledge what we shared with them: years in the same relatively small academic community, attending the same freshman orientation; eating together in Commons; making mischief on the old campus; slogging to early morning lectures in the middle of winter; vying for the same reserved books; participating in athletic events or cheering on those who did. We studied, roomed and partied in the same places, fretted over our majors, struggled with deadlines, got sick anticipating comps, and tried to figure out what to do with the rest of our lives. That was a lot to have in common!

"Our classmates' achievements, the richness and variety of their lives, even their dreams cut short, left me regretting that as an undergraduate I had not connected with more of them. Let's help each other make up for that omission on occasions like this."

-- The Rev. Peter Sipple

Note: John Gerlach, Benjamin Zucker, and Bill Nye also helped lead the service. Bill Boyer, Bob Oliver, Chris Cory, and Tappy Wilder read out the names of deceased classmates. A small choir of classmates, wives and companions performed John Stewart's arrangement of "All Through the Night."
